Babies and young children at the TMS Center for Early Childhood learn modes of creative expression that build confidence, increase brain development, and strengthen parent-child bonds.
Founded in 1955, The Music Settlement’s Center for Early Childhood has sown the seeds of creative expression in thousands of children. Our award-winning EC program is consistently awarded the highest rating of five stars in the state's voluntary Step Up to Quality initiative for exceeding quality benchmarks over and above Ohio’s licensing standards for early childhood centers. We are a five star SUTQ rated program and hold local accreditations of the highest quality for UPK and Pre4Cle.
TMS half-day Preschool, year-round Day School, full-day Kindergarten, and Arts for the Young offerings provide exceptional music, movement, and art experiences for the children between age 3 and 6. Its experienced faculty exceeds educational standards as established by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services; the majority of educators have earned a Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Education or related fields.
OUR PHILOSOPHY: Our Center for Early Childhood Education opens a window on the world for each child through:
These experiences enable children to grow to their maximum potential socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically. As skills and interest develops, self-confidence grows. Children learn to work and play cooperatively with others. They learn to better understand, express, and gain control of their feelings. They develop body awareness through both small and large muscle activities. Symbolic play and art help children to move from the world of make-believe to the world of words in reading and writing.
Financial aid and tuition support for TMS Preschool, Day School, and Kindergarten programs are available for families who qualify through a number of sources, including Cuyahoga County’s Universal Pre-K initiative.
Additionally, the Center for Early Childhood administers an Arts for the Young program --including Music and Movement and Keyboard Explorers-- for children as young as 3 weeks. Courses are held at the Settlement’s University Circle campus and also at BOP STOP at The Music Settlement on the near-West side of Cleveland in Ohio City.
The Music Settlement also offers children with special needs a range of music therapy experiences to encourage and support their social, communication, motor, and cognitive-development skills.
At The Music Settlement, we find no greater challenge or no greater love than to guide children along this wonderful journey. When children attend The Music Settlement, we open their eyes, ears, and minds to their own abilities and the world around them.
