Music Therapy

Established in 1966, our Music Therapy program has been a pioneer in helping people with special needs.

What is Music Therapy?

Within the context of therapeutic relationships, The Music Settlement’s Board-Certified music therapists systematically and prescriptively use music-based interventions to impact the lives of children and adults facing a wide range of life’s challenges through building on the foundations of their unique gifts and abilities, developing or strengthening interpersonal connections, reaching individualized goals and improving the quality of their lives.

Become a Music Therapy Peer Model

The Music Settlement's Department of Music Therapy systematically and prescriptively uses music-based interventions to impact the lives of children and adults facing a wide range of life's challenges. We also integrate our services with other departments and offerings. We help people with special needs, or those at-risk for special needs, reach individualized goals and improve their quality of life. We incorporate "typically developing" children, teens and adults within our individual, partner or group sessions for the purpose of providing excellent role models for social, speech, language, and other skills. these participants are referred to as "peer models."

To apply to become a music therapy peer model, click here, or contact our Assistant Director of the Department of Music Therapy at (216) 421-5806, ext. 141 or email musictherapy@themusicsettlement.org.
