Reginald Bowens- Adult Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Reginald L. Bowens, an alumnus of Washington, D.C.'s Howard University, received his Bachelor of Music in Music Business (with a minor in Jazz Piano) in May 2011. After completing his undergraduate degree, Reginald became a member of The Music Settlement faculty where he currently serves many roles. He is the current Outreach Coordinator for the Department of Music; Assistant Director of the Cleveland Boy Choir; Instructor for the Cleveland Boy Choir's After School Program and Director of TMS's new ensemble addition: the Adult Vocal Jazz Ensemble! While still a student at Howard, Reginald was granted the opportunity to intern with the D.C Jazz Festival - formerly the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival - working alongside Charlie Fishman and Sunny Sumter (executive producer and managing director, respectively). Although Reginald's undergraduate degree program demanded that he primarily focus on the business aspect of music, he still found time to develop his performing and arranging skills by working alongside some of the university's world-renowned faculty, including Grady Tate, Connaitre Miller, Charles Covington, Dr. J. Weldon Norris, and Charlotte Holloman. Reginald's ability to arrange began to develop when he started fooling around with Finale Notation Software in the seventh grade, while a student at the Cleveland School of the Arts. To date, he has arranged pieces for many events including Verizon's How Sweet The Sound Gospel Choir Competition - Washington, D.C, (in which B.R.Y.D.G.E.S., Inc. - the choir for which he wrote the piece, placed best small choir); A Denmark/Sweden Tour for the Howard Gospel Choir and the third season of NBC's "The Sing-Off" for Afro-Blue (third runner-up), Howard's premier vocal jazz ensemble.
The Howard experience equipped Reginald with the skills to work with some of the nation's most iconic musicians both during and after college. Reginald has had the opportunity to work with a litany of renowned jazz, R & B, and pop artist including Jon Hendricks, Bobby McFerrin, Smokey Robinson, Geri Allen, Nneena Frelon, Mary Stallings, Andy Bey, Carmen Lundy, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, Ben Vereen, Marvin Hamlisch, John Blake, Roger Treece, Melba Moore, Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles, Committed, Deke Sharon, The New York Voices and Conrad Herwig. In addition to his work with Jazz and R&B artists, Reginald has also been blessed with the opportunity to perform alongside a myriad of gospel artists including Kim Burrell, Shirley Ceasar, Jason Nelson, Kurt Carr, Ted Winn, Stephen Hurd, Clifton Ross, III, Jessica Reedy, LeAndria Johnson, Amber Bullock, Terrell Hunt, and Bishop Darrell Hines. Reginald has also had the distinct privilege to perform as an opening act for a number of artists including Bill Cosby, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, The Clark Sisters, Fred Hammond, Tye Tribbett, Dottie Peoples, Coco, Marvin Sapp, Deitrick Haddon, Ernest Pugh, James Hall, The Neville Sisters, The Truth, Shawn Stockman and Nick Lachey.
Since he started playing at his grandfather's church at the age of eleven, Reginald has performed at a plethora of venues and with a host of different artists in more than 18 states across the U.S, the District of Columbia, Bermuda, Slovakia, Canada, Denmark and Sweden. Reginald does not know what the future holds, but through his faith and genuine love of the art, he plans to actualize his destiny. Discipline E-Mail Direct Phone Courses |
