Dr. Megan Clay Constantine - Director, Department of Music
Welcome to the Department of Music!
Nestled in the cultural center of Cleveland, Ohio, The Music Settlement is a vibrant beacon of educational activity and cultural diversity. Our mission is to create a community where artistic expression belongs to everyone by serving those who seek personal growth through the arts, thus we offer programs in preschool, music therapy, and music instruction. By focusing on the development of the ‘whole person,' from preschoolers to older adult students, The Music Settlement truly changes lives. I am the newly-appointed Director of the Department of Music here at The Music Settlement, and I am truly honored to be a part of this mission, one that has served this wonderful community for over 100 years.
As one of the oldest community music schools in the country, we can stand firm on a century of musical excellence while looking forward to progressive methods in music education. Our offerings in the music department reflect this. On this website, you may find courses in traditional classical music, private lessons, along with our innovative programs, such as Jazz at the Music Settlement (J@MS), Centennial Strings (a rock, hip-hop, bluegrass orchestra), Orchestra for Adults, and Musical Mix & Mingle. There is something for everybody in the Department of Music at The Music Settlement; it is never too late or too early for music instruction, and our programs address all ages and levels of experience.
I truly believe that The Music Settlement in Cleveland, Ohio changes people's lives for the better every day. From preschoolers, to special learners who find ways to express themselves musically, through to high school students receiving a college music scholarship, becoming the first people in their families to attend college. The Music Settlement changes lives and, thus, has a profound impact on the whole community. I welcome all of you to be a part of this: through our private lessons, music classes, ensembles, or volunteering. There are lots of great things happening over here - I look forward to seeing you!
