welcome
The Settlement's Harp Department offers quality instruction. A variety of styles of music are taught by our faculty. Students who are more advanced can be instructed in improvisation including the reading of lead sheets and fake books.
We work with students of all ages and levels of accomplishment. We teach elementary school, middle school, high school, adults, and senior students. So come and join us, it is never too late to begin lessons.
Since we teach our students to read music, the starting age of six is usually recommended. This does not exclude younger students who can begin in group instruction. Some students have begun private lessons at four. It is advisable to speak with our department head if you have any questions about when to begin lessons for your child.
While teaching all the rudiments of music for Harp students, and we tailor method books and courses of study to the individual interests and needs of the student as soon as they have mastered the basics.
We offer performance opportunities for our students in mixed instrumental and vocal recitals, class studio recitals, and two special festival recitals each year. Many other events are also offered, such as master classes, symposiums of practice methods and interpretation, and other workshops.
Our students have the opportunity to attend recitals given by our faculty and guest artists. Tickets, free of charge, are available for some Cleveland Orchestra concerts. Scholarships and financial aid are available.
These are a few of the many benefits of study at The Settlement. Come and join us in a learning adventure!
